Holy Temple COGIC was founded by Elder James Smith and Lady Theo Smith in the home of Sister Agnes Angelle in 1975. The church was founded upon the principles and doctrine of holiness and sanctification of the National Church of God in Christ. The local church in Silsbee, Texas began in a private home and was later able to construct a new building when funding was raised to do so in 1985. The trustees who led this initiative were Brother Paul Darks and Brother David Green, SR. In the first 25 years the church was led by Senior Pastor James Smith and he was preceded by Pastor Mark Smith for the following 12 years. After Pastor Mark Smith resigned, the church was under the leadership of Senior Pastor Sean Franklin. When Pastor Franklin resigned after about 15 months of service as Senior Pastor, the Elder Shan Gilder SR was appointed as Senior Pastor in December 2013 by Bishop Rufus Kyles of the Texas Southeast First Jurisdiction. The Church is now an integral part of the Kountze Evangelistic District and serves in the Texas Gulf Coast Jurisdiction under Jurisdictional Prelate Dr. Destry C. Bell SR.
